Katrina announced her engagement to Swedish footballer and Vittsjo GIK teammate Clara Markstedt in a heartwarming social media post, with fellow Matildas stars quick to congratulate them. When Australian-born football player Katrina Gorry flew to Sweden after being recruited by local club Vittsjö GIK, she had no idea that's where she would meet the love of her life. In 2021, she had been on an injury time out and decided to visit an IVF clinic in Norway, where she was playing before joining her Swedish club. Things started happening a lot faster than she expected. The Matildas' leader has been dating Kristie Mewis—another professional footballer at the top of her game—for years. In September 2023, Mewis was spotted in a video wearing a huge engagement ring on her finger. During her pregnancy Gorry took time away from professional football to become a mother but returned to the Matildas in 2022 before playing at the Women's World Cup this year. Gorry was in Norway, playing for Avaldsnes, but she was injured at the time.
