From indigenous Aboriginals to Australian whalers, Griffith's Island has been home to many including the Griffith's Island Lighthouse, built 1859. The island, off the southern coast of Victoria, Australia, no longer hosts any permanent inhabitants, but the lighthouse is still accessible as a popular tourist attraction. Griffiths Island is located 3h 30 mins drive from Melbourne city, in the charming fishing village of Port Fairy. This tiny island is only accessible by foot through a short causeway to the mainland and it's an amazing little sanctuary; great for spotting native birds and wallabies.
