In the early 1980s, Porter was known for his large-scale mixed media works, created using collaged paper and PVA glue. Michael Porter was born in Derbyshire; his early studies were undertaken at Nottingham College of Art (1963 - 66) and Chelsea College of Art (1967 - 72). In 1972-73 he was a Fellow in Fine Art at Gloucester College of Art. He is currently (2009) Research Fellow at Falmouth College of Art and visiting tutor at Wimbledon School of Art.
