The Holden Monaro ( / məˈnɑːroʊ / Mon-AH-ro) is a car which was manufactured by General Motors ' Australian division Holden. It has a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and was produced with a two-door coupé body from 1968 to 1975 and again from 2001 to 2006 and with a 4-door sedan body from 1973 to 1977. Monaro GTS Standard power train was a 253 V8 with 4 speed M20 gearbox (M21 was the "high performance" option on 253 V8s) and could be optioned up with the 308 V8 with M21 4-speed or Trimatic. Date: 13.11.2018 Quite a departure from the early Monaros, the HQ went on to become a worthy standard bearer for Holden's coupe series Holden HQ GTS 350 Monaro Few will deny that Holden's Monaro, when it appeared in 1968, ranked as the most significant new concept in Australian automotive history. And in some ways, the fact that the HQ Monaro didn't have to homolgate a race-car, made it a gentler, easier-to-live-with creature. The 5.7-litre engine, for instance, was detuned from the HG GTS 350's 300-odd horsepower to a milder 275 (205kW) and the whole show was more civilised. Word is that the engine in the automatic version was a bit.
