Barunguba Montague Island Nature Reserve is one of NSW south coast's major attractions. Barunguba Montague Island is a mecca for wildlife and a top destination for whale watching, seal viewing, penguin tours, scuba diving, snorkelling, seal dives, grey nurse shark dives, wildlife cruises and bird watching trips. Whales Located 9km South of Narooma, Barunguba Montague Island is a 20 minute boat ride away and is part of Montague Island Nature Reserve, a protected reserve which is home to penguins, seals, dolphins, a wide array of fish and bird life, and at certain times of the year, whales. Based in Narooma, Montague Island Adventures offers a range of tours running from three to four hours. If you're interested in a land-based excursion, which includes visits to the island's Australian and New Zealand fur seal colonies and well as its distinctive granite lighthouse built in 1881, you can choose from a morning or an afternoon tour. Barunguba Montague Island Nature Reserve is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. Please note: A minimum age of 5 years applies for all visitors.
