It was formerly owned by Ford Pines, who initially built it as his main base of research and residence. After his disappearance, his twin brother Stan Pines took over the house and transformed it into a tourist trap.

Confusion Hill, a roadside attraction in Piercy, California, was facing severe financial difficulties as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Mystery Shack is a tourist trap in Gravity Falls, Oregon in the show Gravity Falls. It overcharges unlucky visitors for a glimpse at the world's most bizarre museum. This museum is owned and inhabited by Grunkle Stan, and is the main base for Dipper and Mabel throughout the series. It is also their home during their vacation in Gravity Falls.

One of the most iconic symbols used in the cult-classic series, Gravity Falls, is the question mark which acts as the logo for the Mystery Shack-and now fans know exactly why that is (spoiler: it's not what fans think). Gravity Falls features the paranormal adventures of Dipper and Mabel as they stay with their great uncle Stan for the summer in Gravity Falls, Oregon. The Mystery Shack website is run by the Mystery of GF. He also runs the Mystery of GF website, Twitter account and Youtube channel. While the website isn't officially Disney owned, all merchandise on it (almost all that is) is licensed.
