Initially a rebadged locally assembled Plymouth Valiant from the United States, from the second generation launched in 1963, the Valiant was fully manufactured in Australia. In the United States, where only the V8 was considered to be capable of any performance, the Valiant quickly gained a small V8 engine designed with the small car in mind — the 273 V8. A BIT over 10 years ago, Angelo Furfaro bought himself a 273ci, V8-powered '67 Valiant as an occasional cruiser. It was a real survivor, as Angelo says: "It was mint - very little rust, and all the hard stuff like glass and moulds were all pretty good.".

The AP6/VC Valiant After Australians were wooed by the striking styling of the R and S Series Valiants, the first Australian model, the 1963 AP5, was a huge let down. Virgil Exner, responsible for the wild and adventurous look of Chryslers up to that point, had been dismissed. CHRYSLER was the last of the Big Three to have a stab at the Australian family car market, launching the Valiant in 1962 to take on Holden's EK and Ford's XL. Known as the R series, the first Valiant was built in the US and assembled at Adelaide's Mile End factory. Besides Australia, export Valiants made their way to Canada, Mexico, South. It was created to give the company an entry in the compact car market emerging in the late 1950s. The Valiant was also built and marketed, without the Plymouth brand.
