Initially designated the Porsche Type 60 by Ferdinand Porsche, the design team included Erwin Komenda and Karl Rabe. In October 1935 the first two Type 60 prototypes, known as the V1 and V2 (V for Versuchswagen, or "test car"), were ready. In 1936, testing of three further V3 prototypes, built in Porsche's Stuttgart shop, began. For the first time, the idea for the later Volkswagen (the Type 60) manifested itself. Porsche 's vision had begun to take shape, and on April 27, 1934, Erwin Komenda completed the first drawing for the Type 60, as the "Volkswagen Project" entry shows. Motor-racing project In 1935, the first Volkswagen prototypes were ready for testing, internally referred to as Porsche type 60. After a few prototypes, a series of 30 Volkswagen test cars were made by Daimler-Benz AG in 1937.
