Easy After moving into our new house and unpacking quickly, we're now at the point that it's time to organize. The entryway in our new house is bigger, but since it's the only entry, it's the main drop zone. I was tired of coming home to see piles of boots, shoes, jackets - so I decided to makeover the coat closet. on October 20, 2019 I spend a ton of time at my parents' home (in case you missed it, my workshop is in their backyard). So, no surprise that I tend to contribute to their mess… That being said, I have wanted to help them organize their entryway closet for the longest time. The next goal was storage. This was solved by a sweet little trunk setup, built into the floor area. All it took were a few pieces of scrap wood to support the lid, and I cut down some thin plywood (primed and then painted white) to establish the box of the container. The floor stayed the same. The plan is to move the rod to the left side, clearing out a space for hooks on the right. I want to add two rows of hooks so the bottom could be used for kids' clothes. I also want to remove the top shelf and put the rod higher. It feels a bit low as of now. I also want to add built-in cubbies on the bottom from both sides.
Instructions. Create a sketch (plan) of your entry closet and design it to have more functionality. Cut the wood and sand it smooth with an orbital sander. Prim and paint the wood. Secure the bracing for the shelves to the wall. Place the shelves into place and secure them with nails. Use wood screws and a drill to attach to each side of the closet. At this point, you will have two side supports and a back support attached to studs in the wall. Grab two support brackets for 2x4's and attach them. Add a wood support in the bracket that spans the closet. Continue adding supports as needed.
