Major's Hill Park was erected by the National Capital Commission and is dedicated to the Major Daniel Bolton of the Royal Engineers. When Lieutenant-Colonel By first arrived in Canada as Superintending Engineer for the construction of the Rideau Canal, he had a house built for him and his family on a small knoll within the military compound overlooking the entrance to the canal. The National Capital Commission, official gardener of Canada's Capital, plants close to 100 different types of tulips and thousands of other spring flowers to offer breathtaking sights.
