The VMAX 700 SX entered production in 1997 with a triple that was claimed to be the lightest on the market. Already Yamaha was looking at a triple that would compete in weight with the 670. The Polaris Indy XLT forever changed the sport. Twice. A lot has changed since we named the 1993 XLT Special No. 1. Back then we picked the XLT mostly because of its powerful, yet smooth three-banger. (We still love that throaty roar.) Of course, it also helped that the Special featured Fox gas shocks up front and in the rear. Removing the hood screens or adding a nosecone radiator is a good idea if you plan to really try and push the XLT to its limits.

#1 · Feb 18, 2015 (Edited) Hey guys I just bought this sled but I'm by no means new to sleddin, its a 1995 XLT 600 triple. I took it out for its first rip and snapped the drive belt. What a great start. I bought a new belt and thought nothing of it. but when I went to ride it with the new belt, it bogs badly unless I work the throttle and choke. Despite having the best chassis in the industry in the mid-1980s, Polaris had a gaping hole right in the heart of its line-up. The Indy 400 was a solid sled, but a bit under-powered for its weight. The Indy 600 triple was heavy and difficult to handle at times, required a Herculean right thumb and was downright expensive.
