The Power Flower outlines the identities that often result in a comparative advantage in life, or, to call it like it is: privilege. Being heterosexual, well educated, white, male, with no disability will result in privilege pretty much everywhere in the world. One exercise for undertaking an inventory of personal and professional privilege is the power flower (Arnold et al., 1991). Designed in the early 1990s by a group of social justice educators, this activity asks participants to consider their own positioning relative to the dominant group across a range of social justice categories.
