Once you're at the top, begin your adventure by strolling the boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station and Sanson's Peak and learn about Canada. As you set out along the wooded trail that rises steadily upwards, the tranquil air at the shaded base of Sulphur Mountain gives way to a fresh breeze whispering across the mountainside. Emerging from steep switchbacks through the trees, you're rewarded at every turn with glimpses of the sweeping valley view below. Finally, crest the summit. The Sulphur Mountain hike provides a surreal view of the towering Cascade Mountain and the staggering peaks of the Sundance Range. You can carry yourself to the top or hop on the Banff Gondola for an eight-minute ride up 698 meters to the summit ridge. There you'll find restaurants, hiking trails, a boardwalk, gift shop, an information center. The Sulphur Mountain trail starts at the north west side of the upper gondola parking lot. It's 5.3 km's one way on a series of switchbacks. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the top. The majority of the trail is through the forest, but views of Banff and the valley peak through occasionally along the way.
