The Ultimate Collection by The Who Music Charts
06. David Bowie — "I Can't Explain". One of two Who covers on 1973's Pin Ups, this laid-back, almost parochial take on "I Can't Explain" brings an unmistakable cool to the band's first hit single. Bowie's vocals on this album have been infamously maligned by critics over the years, but factor in Ken Fordham's baritone sax and Mick Ronson's. Published on September 18, 2023 By Brett Milano Illustration: uDiscoverMusic The coolest, best, greatest, most iconic, most famous album covers of all-time. It doesn't really matter what sort. Cover artwork The album cover was designed by pop artist Peter Blake, whose work includes the band's Face Dances and The Beatles ' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album covers. It is a patchwork of 25 squares: 22 squares showing different coloured images placed around three squares forming the word "WHO" in the centre of the album cover. The band had been tossing around ideas for an album cover for a while. Rejected ideas included Keith Moon dressed up as a woman, or in S&M gear, and a naked heavy-set woman with her privates replaced with photos of the band members. Some photos were taken by Russell, including a photoshoot with Moon in various outfits (see images below).

The Who: Albums Ranked From Worst To Best By Ian Fortnam ( Classic Rock ) last updated 21 May 2021 While not exactly the most prolific of bands, The Who have released some of the most enduring and genuinely influential albums in the history of rock (Image credit: RB \/ Getty Images) By Louder ( Classic Rock ) last updated 13 August 2021 How a rubbish dump in County Durham provided the backdrop to The Who's iconic album sleeve
The Who album, The Who Sell Out was the band's third album. The record was released in 1967. The album cover stands as one of our favorite Who album covers of all time. The band was taking a stand against artists selling out. (If only they could have fast forwarded forty years in the future to the opening of the television show C.S.I.) The Who's twelfth studio album, WHO was released on 6 December 2019 in the following formats: Standard vinyl (Polydor 7747053), Deluxe audiophile triple vinyl (with rare demo 'Sand' on LP3) (Polydor 7748605), Standard CD (Polydor 773036), Deluxe CD (with three bonus tracks) (Polydor 0826465) and Cassette (Polydor 0806462).
