Meinhard von Gerkan, the prominent German architect, died in Hamburg on Wednesday, November 30, at the age of 87. The years of von Gerkan's childhood and youth were inflected by the predicament of being a refugee, as well as the loss of his parents and the frequent changes of schools and places of residence.
