The Peugeot 406 arrived, in saloon form, in late 1995. Compared to the 405 it replaced, the 406 was just a shade bigger in every way except height - and about 300kg heavier. The platform was new, but the engines (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 4-cyl. petrol and 1.9 or 2.1 Diesel, initially) were not. Launched in 1997, the Peugeot 406 Coupe was styled by Pininfarina. It looked fantastic then, and the baby Ferrari 465GT design has definitely aged well. Two engines were available from launch - a 2.0-litre petrol and a 3.0-litre V6. The range-topping SE trim got all the toys as well as leather trim, and is definitely the one to go for today.
