Ana María García was born on December 9, 1953. She is graduated in sociology and also studied film journalism. She is a film director, producer and camera assistant and is also an outstanding documentary filmmaker. She is a member of the Superior Council of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation (Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano). Ana María García is a Cuban-Puerto Rican film director. She is best known for the short documentary La Operación (1982) a film which focuses on US-imposed sterilization policies in Puerto Rico. She produced the documentary Cocolos y Rockeros(1992) which documents the musical opinions of the youth in Puerto Rico.
