The Castro was one of the first gay neighborhoods in the United States. The Castro District has something for everyone, from glorious Bay views to scores of stores with locally made goods and sing-along musicals in one of the oldest movie palaces still operating in the city. It's pretty much impossible to confuse the Castro with any other part of San Francisco.

The MUNI Train. The underground Muni is one of the best ways to get to the Castro District. The K, L, and M trains all stop at the Harvey Milk Plaza at Market Street and Castro Street. It is a nice district of San Francisco and has a special flavour. This area and some of the surrounding areas was known by the term 'Little Scandinavia', because of the large number of the residents in the area originating from Finnish, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish ancestry. Because of the mountains and the fog they split, as well as the year-round wind the city is known for, the Castro district has the most sun and best temperature in all of San Francisco except for the airport where they measure the temperature, misleading all of the tourists to think they don't need a sweater. The made-to-order sandwiches at Rossi's Delicatessen(426 Castro St.) always hit the spot. // Coffee shops are the new bar here in the Castro (okay, not really, but there are lots). Ever so slightly hidden from tourists to the neighborhood, Spike's(4117 19th St.) is where the dog-loving locals go to read a book or catch up with the neighbors.
