The Renault Fuego ( Fire in Spanish) is a sport hatchback that was manufactured and marketed by Renault from 1980 to 1986, replacing the Renault 15 and 17 coupés of the 1970s. Marketed in the United States by American Motors Corporation (AMC), the Fuego was also assembled in several countries in South America, where production continued until 1992. The interior, though, nice! Red leather, it's hard to beat that for me and this thing looks perfect. There were a variety of engines available in the Fuego starting with a 1.6 naturally-aspirated four-cylinder and a version with a turbo and 107 hp.

The interior of the Fuego included some quirky design features, and the most obvious of these is the front seats. When the car was released, these seats were like nothing that had ever been seen previously in a production car. The leather on these seats appears to have held up well over the years, but the driver's seat is showing some wear. Both Fuego and Fuego Turbo models relied on front discs and rear drums to scrub off speed. The styling proved to be a selling point for European consumers, who made the Fuego the best-selling coupe in Europe from 1980 to 1982. It seems to typify all of the issues that plagued Renault in its final years in the US: attractive if quirky designs that didn't stand up to the (brutal) test of time that typical American buyers subjected their cars to. The 96bhp 1647cc and 110bhp 1995cc engines were more promising, but the Fuego that everyone covets today is the 132bhp turbocharged 1565cc engined model, complete with 'TURBO' decals, cross spoke.
