This ornamental arch was the first of four to be built in Paris and is located roughly around where the original toll-gate of Porte Saint-Denis through the Wall of Charles V (the city walls at the time surrounding Paris) was situated. The arch was built in the early 1670's and has sculptures, friezes and bas-reliefs on each facade. The Porte-Saint-Denis district of Paris, near two of Paris's six main railway stations in the 10th arrondissement: the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l'Est.
