The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority authorized the creation of the Geoffrey Bay Snorkeling trail in 2012. There are 5 floats setup to guide you along the trail that starts ~395 meters from the shore. One of the highlights of the trail is the wreck of the Moltke, a boat which sank in the 1911. ARCADIA Driving into Arcadia, you'll travel alongside Gabul Way, a fantastic walk with vantage points along the cliff's edge. Geoffrey Bay is the first place you get to discover as you drive into Arcadia, home to one of our snorkel trails and a whole bunch of friendly rock wallabies.

GEOFFREY BAY SNORKEL TRAIL The trail starts on Marine Parade, about 400 meters from the beach, directly across from Arcadia Village and just down the road from the famous dive shop, Pleasure Divers. Four numbered surface floats outline the trail. This snorkel trail commences 390m off the beach of Geoffrey Bay at the end of the bay closest to the Arcadia Hotel. This trail offers an array of marine life around the Moltke wreck, a German passenger and cargo ship which was deliberately sunk (scuttled) off Magnetic Island in 1911. The Geoffry Bay Trail offers a good selection of fish to see around the Moltke wreck. For stronger swimmers the WWII aeropane propeller and engine block ( from a CW-22B Curtiss Falcon) also is a great adventure. There are two snorkel trails: one at Nelly Bay near Base Backpackers (5 surface floats) and one at Geoffrey Bay near the Wallaby feeding area and near the Moltke wreck (4 surface floats). These small marsupials are native to Australia and are known for their incredible ability to navigate rocky terrains.
