The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 are sports cars which were produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1971 until 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker after the G-Class. They were sold under the SL (R107) and SLC (C107) model names in a variety of names indicating the displacement of the engines. The Mercedes-Benz R107 / C107 was a generation of the SL-Class that was introduced in 1971, replacing the W113 SL-Class. These cars were available in two body styles, convertible and coupe, with the convertible known as the R107 and designated SL, while the coupe is known as the C107 and designated SLC.

Introduced for 1972, the C107 SLC became the first flagship coupe from Mercedes-Benz that was based on the roadster model instead of being a shortened version of the flagship sedan at the time. Both cars are identical up to the door's rear edge, with the SLC's wheelbase extended 360mm to make room for additional rear seat space. DRIVING THE C107 This is classic old school Mercedes-Benz. You sit behind a huge steering wheel, facing a dashboard that as well as being almost identical to the R107's looks solid and functional, and you have the usual springy seats, more likely to be trimmed in velour than leather. The rear seat will take two adults, but space is not generous. The C107 SLC was Mercedes' temporary flirtation with an R107 SL-based, range-topping coupe before reverting to type with the 126-series S-Class. 62,888 were made during standard production which spanned 1972 to 1981.
