The Black Goat is the deity worshipped by the Cult that follows Mae throughout the game. It also is supposedly the reason behind Mae's strange dreams. The Black Goat supposedly resides within a hole deep within the abandoned mines near Possum Springs. It is stated by the cloaked figures in the cult, who appear to worship it, that it does not speak but instead sings. The cloaked figures explain. That's what "Night in the Woods" is all about, and every character has their own ways to accept that. That's where the Cult and the Black Goat enter in our discussion. The Cult is made by delusional people, who experienced "Possum Springs" in its finest and now are not only unable to accept that the town is now the shadow of what it once was.

Depending on how long those cultists fill tis metaphorical belly. Think the last scene there with the weird black speech was Mae losing contact with the black. Maybe the cultist was trying to kidnap someone, but accidentally killed them during the struggle. A dead body is a lot harder to carry a long ways than a potentially coerce-able person, so the cultist might have cut the body to pieces and tried to take it away a piece at a time, accidentally leaving the arm behind.
