Oscar Wilde

Robert Baldwin Ross (25 May 1869 - 5 October 1918) was a British journalist, art critic and art dealer, best known for his relationship with Oscar Wilde, to whom he was a devoted friend and literary executor. Robert "Robbie" Baldwin Ross, journalist and art critic (born 25 May 1869 in Tours, France; died 5 October 1918 in London, United Kingdom). Ross is best known for his association with dramatist Oscar Wilde. Early Life Robert Ross was the youngest of five children of John Ross and Augusta Elizabeth "Eliza" Baldwin.

The Letters of Oscar Wilde indicated that Wilde's friends, Robert Ross and More Adey, suggested the alias to Wilde (Hart-Davis, 1962, p. 555). Although the influence of Wilde's friends in his selection of an alias cannot be questioned, I suspect that there were other reasons for his choice. Wilde had been given much advice by Oscar Wilde's 1895. This tatty sixteen page pamphlet is one of the most surprising and rare treasures of the Robert Ross Memorial collection.
