SchneiderKreuznach Xenon 50mm F/1.9

Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm F/1.9 for Instamatic Reflex : Kodak's Retina series of cameras was a long-running line of premium cameras produced by Kodak AG in Germany. The early folding models had the "Kleinbild" 50mm F/2 Xenon lens, but it wasn't until the Retina Reflex series was released that the F/1.9 model of the lens appeared. Together with @samprstn I made a small photography tour through the inner city of Frankfurt am Main where I tested my new Schneider-Kreuznach Retina Xenon 50.

Xenon 50mm f1.9 A photo from this summer. Carrot flower from our garden. Yet another leaves bokeh. I like the rendering of Xenon. This is a version for Retina cameras but not named Retina-Xenon. It has short MFD of 0.5m compared to 0.9 of more common Retina-Xenon. Obviously it has longer barel but other than that it is the same lens optically. The 50mm f1.9 Xenon is indeed quite a nice lens. The build quality is exceptional and the chrome finish is exquisite and beautiful. After decades, it, like all my other Schneider DKL lenses, still looks stunning. Most of the lens is made from brass and though small, it has a good heft and feels dense. Schneider-Kreuznach Retina-Xenon 50 mm f/1.9 (DKL-mount) Specifications The table below summarizes the lens' key specifications (Measurements based on pictured sample): Further notes: 4 Just recently purchased an adapter to use old Schneider Retina lenses on cameras with a Nikon F mount. As I expected this lens is excellent though a pain to use in fully manual mode with no automatic stop down. A couple of surprises. On a Nikon F5, F3, or D2X there is no problem with the mirror hitting the back of the lens. Manual focus standard prime lens made for M42 screw mount SLR cameras by Schneider-Kreuznach. Metal body available in black with zebra stripes. Schneider-Kreuznach 50mm f1.9 Edixa-Xenon Minimum focus distance: 1.4m Aperture blades: 6 Size: 64 x 37mm Weight: 232g The Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm f/1.9 is a prime lens for a DKL mount camera. Smooth focus and clean glass, but withsome cosmetic wear, including a slightly deformed filter ring. Putting a filter on it will be tricky, but this won't impact function of the lens otherwise.

Got this lens with a nearly destroyed Kodak Retina camera attached at an antique store for $15. The camera went straight into the garbage bin, the lens got attached to my DKL to LM adapter and mounted to the Techart LM-FE autofocus adapter on the A7R II. I was very pleasantly surprised with the sharpness and rendering. This was wide open @ f/1.9.
