Anthony Baus is an alumnus of the Grand Central Atelier in Long Island City, New York. His unique artistic vision, which mines the world of antiquity as source material for contemporary issues, is expressed through an astonishing graphic facility derived from intense study of Italian Baroque drawing and painting. Anthony talks about his time in Italy at Eleventh Street Arts Gallery, Grand Central Atelier. Anthony Baus is currently an Instructor in GCA's Core & Part-time Programs, and a continuing Resident Artist. He spent the past school year in Italy courtesy of the Alma Shapiro prize. Upon his return in June he was back in the studio piecing together narratives from the ancient world soon to make their way to the canvas. Anthony Baus (B. 1981) Anthony creates romantically inspired narratives upon a scaffolding of ancient architecture, richly imbued with symbolism and mystery. His subjects include classic themes of time and religion and a particular interest in the Mithraic Mysteries.
