Billiken: The Unofficial Mascot of Osaka By Liam Carrigan - February 3, 2021 If there's one thing the Japanese love, it's cutesy mascot characters, and Billiken is no different. From Kumamoto's adorable chubby bear, Kumamon, to Funabashi City's bizarre infant/pear hybrid "Funnashi" these characters are everywhere. Billiken are little fat tummied, smiley statues that you'll find all over Osaka - but why? That's what we wanted to know too - so we found out. There's a lot of odd things dotted around Osaka.
