Curvature comb A curvature comb [8] can be used to represent graphically the curvature of every point on a curve. If t ↦ x ( t ) {\displaystyle t\mapsto x(t)} is a parametrised curve its comb is defined as the parametrized curve The curvature comb of a curve is defined as: (1) c (t) = x (t) − d ⋅ κ (t) n (t). If we discretize c, then we get the appearance of a comb distributed along x, as illustrated in Fig. 1, hence the term "curvature comb".In our examples, comb curves are shown in red; the input curves are in black. The scaling factor d is needed to bring out the salient features of the comb.

To display curvature combs for a sketch entity, simply right-click on the entity and choose Show Curvature Combs from the pop-up menu. When you do, SolidWorks will create a set of lines normal to the sketch entity at points along that entity; the longer the line of the comb, the more curvature there is at that point. See the CAD tip: https://www.cadforum.cz/en/displaying-the-curvature-comb-or-radii-of-a-curve-curvcomb-tip13864Viz CAD tip: https://www.cadforum.cz/cz/zobraz. Curvature Combs. Curvature combs provide visual enhancement of the slope and curvature of most sketch entities in part, assembly, and drawing documents. The Surface Curvature Combs tool evaluates curvature quality and smoothness. It displays U and V mapping lines in a graphical display across face boundaries. The tool looks for curvature constraints and extends curvature combs across adjacent faces. The length of each spine on the comb is proportional to the amount of curvature at the point.

The comb plot allows for a natural correspondence between the comb and the curve. In a curvature plot, points on the curvature graph are disconnected from points on the curve. However, all points with 0(t) = 0 can be marked on the curve. Curvature plots lend themselves to the display of curvature or radius of curvature numerical values. The curvature combs tool graphically shows the amount of curvature at a given point on a sketch element. A smooth curvature comb is desired to produce the smoothest surface. As shown below, both splines look the same until we look at their curvature combs. The spline with the smoothest curvature combs (i.e. no flat spots or dips exist) will. Take two arcs. One has a radius of 1 the other has a radius of 2. (By the way, radius is the inverse of curvature, c=1/r, so that infinite curvature means 0 radius [essentially a point], and 0 curvature means infinite radius [essentially a straight line]). Radius can be measured using a "comb" on the side of the arc opposite the center. Apply the Curve Curvature tool by clicking on a curve or surface isoparm. At this time (while the locator is active) you can adjust the comb plot interactively using the mouse buttons. To go back to an existing comb plot to change the settings: Use Pick → Locator if it's not already active. Use Windows → Information → Information Window.

According to the curvature combs G0-G2 have noticeable dislocation of curve acceleration, which will be evident on the extruded surface. G3 is marginally better than G2 as it adds micro transitions in the curve of the comb to make it truly curve continuous. The only surface that I was able to create from these curves that didn't have.
To show the curvature combs of a sketch entity: In an open sketch, right-click a sketch entity and select Show Curvature Combs. A comb appears that displays the curvature of the entity. For splines, the comb crosses the spline at inflection points. The comb changes shape dynamically as you drag the sketch entity and its curvature changes. A "curvature comb" is a type of graphical diagram added to the plot of a curve which shows a number of "teeth" segments with their bases along the curve, oriented perpendicular to the curve and proportional in length to its curvature. I think you can better understand curvature comb through the following figure.

Curvature Comb Analysis. Shows the amount of curvature at sample points along the selected edges. Select the edges to evaluate then set the comb density and scale. Curvature Comb Analysis - Definition: Shows the amount of curvature at sample points along the selected edges. The curvature comb is very convenient in displaying a graphical representation of curva-ture to the curve. Farin (2016) concisely explained the relationship between curvature plot, curvature comb, and their implementations. Programming that determines the distribution of spines on a curvature comb was produced by Hill (2005).
