At the baby age of 18, almost a year after One Direction released their first album in 2012, Styles made his first real estate purchase, snapping up a reported $4.8 million stucco house in North London's pastoral, suburban Hampstead Heath, which is famous for its stunning views of the London skyline. For more than three decades, the building was known as the Erskine House and served as a social hub for the community of Kodiak: a place where weddings, social mixers, and newcomers to the island were welcomed. The building was later acquired by the firm of Donnelly and Acheson in 1948 and converted into a boarding house.

During the early 18th century the estate and old Erskine House came into the ownership of the Lords Blantyre. In 1828 Major General Robert W Stuart, the 11th Lord Blantyre and a distinguished veteran of the Wellington's peninsular campaigns during the Napoleonic Wars, commissioned the present house.
