The KITLV image collection holds photographs, prints and drawings that were acquired by The Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV). Housed at Leiden University Libraries since 2014, as part of the KITLV library collection. The biggest part of the image collection consists of photographs. The KITLV is a research institute about the past and present in Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. KITLV aims to be a world-class research institute for the study of Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, with a focus on Indonesia and the 'Dutch' Caribbean, in an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective.

Our Institute For over 160 years, KITLV staff has combined scholarly research with the creation of the world's best library and special collections on the former Dutch colonies of Indonesia, Suriname and the Antilles. Dutch East Indies literature (KITLV) Dutch East Indies literature (Dutch: Indische letteren or Nederlands Indische literatuur, Indonesian: Sastra Hindia Belanda) is the Dutch-language literature of colonial and post-colonial Indonesia from the seventeenth century to the present day. It includes Dutch, Indo-European and Indonesian authors. As of July 1, 2014, the KITLV/Royal Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies has entrusted the care of its world famous collections to Leiden University Library (UBL), located at the Witte Singel in Leiden, just across from our building).
