The Alfa Romeo Giulietta ( Tipo 750 and Tipo 101, meaning "Type 750" and "Type 101") is a family of automobiles made by Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo from 1954 until 1965 which included a 2+2 coupé, four-door saloon, estate, spider, Sprint, and Sprint Speciale. The 2+2 was Alfa Romeo's first successful foray into the 1.3-litre class. In one well-worn story, New York-based European and British car importer Max Hoffman was in Milan to purchase a number of Bertone-constructed Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint convertibles when he told Alfa Romeo executives that he'd place an immediate order for 600 Giulietta, along the option for another 2000 cars, with the stipulation that Alfa Rome.

The Giulietta, built from 1954-1965, was the second of Alfa's post-war designs, and the company's first truly successful volume-production car. It was powered by an all-alloy, DOHC four-cylinder of 1,290cc, quite a technologically advanced bit of engineering for a moderately priced car. The new model would be called Alfa Romeo Giulietta, after Shakespeare's Juliet Capulet. The Giulietta was a good design, with a number of advanced technical features, but lackluster sales of the 1900 meant that Alfa lacked the funds to put the new car into full production. The Giulietta marked Alfa's entrance into a new market sector, that of the medium-sized cars, and also had the great merit of revitalising the Alfa Romeo sporting tradition. This twin overhead camshaft engine of similar design to the 1900 was all in light alloy, as was the gearbox and differential casing. The famous coachbuilder, Pininfarina, was tasked with designing a new prototype for 1955. What was created was the Giulietta Spider Prototype, first introduced to the public at the 1956 Turing Motor Show in production form. It sat atop a slightly shorter wheelbase than the Sprint but used the same mechanical components.

Pininfarina designed the first Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider in 1955 and it would be made, more or less in that form, until the arrival of the Duetto in 1966. Pinifarina cut five and a half inches out of the Bertone coupe and cross-braced the body for rigidity. The coupe's column-shift gear change was moved to the floor and the sleek little.
