The James Webb Space Telescope (sometimes called Webb or JWST) is a large infrared telescope with a 6.5-meter primary mirror. Webb is the premier observatory of the next decade, serving thousands of astronomers worldwide. It will study every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting. The James Webb Space Telescope is the largest, most technically advanced telescope ever built. Its larger size and richer infrared views allow it to go beyond Hubble's Deep Field observations to peer back over 13.5 billion years, witnessing the first stars and galaxies forming out of the darkness of the early universe.
