Kilt Rock is a sea cliff in north east Trotternish Peninsula. It gets its name from the pleats said to resemble a kilt, with vertical basalt columns that form the pleats and intruded sills of dolerite forming the pattern. Adjoining it are Mealt Falls which fall dramatically 55m from the clifftop into the sea. Kilt Rock is located less than a mile north from Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls viewpoint. It is a sharp cliff on the Eastern coastline of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The best way to understand where Kilt Rock is located is to look at this satellite view of the area.
