Lallybroch is real life Midhope Castle, an ancient 500 year old castle outside Edinburgh . It was pretty much unknown until Outlander started filming there . The castle is near South Queensferry on the private Hopetoun Estate. Used as Lallybroch (also known as Broch Tuarach), Midhope Castle is a 16th-century tower house located in Abercorn, just west of South Queensferry, on the Hopetoun estate. As we can see below, it is every bit as impressive in real life as Lallybroch, with the familiar approach and entrance to the building. Built by John Martyne, the Laird of Midhope in the 15th Century and sits on some of the impressive 6,500 acres of land that the Hopetoun Estate covers. Both Midhope and Hopetoun feature through out the series of Outlander and both could be visited in the same trip for keen fans. Location: Abercorn, West Lothian (35 mins from Edinburgh city centre) Cost: £5 per adult (when purchased online, £6 per adult when purchased at the castle).
