Yes, the beaches on Porto Santo are different from the ones you see on Madeira Island as the sand is powdery-fine and therapeutic. Several smaller beaches combine and merge in to one to form this amazing spectacle. From our Hotel, Pestana Porto Santo, situated roughly halfway along the beach, we did walk to both ends, on different days. The walk to Vila Baleira took about 45 minutes, the Port about 10 minutes more. The other direction, to Calheta took about 50 minutes.
