First time I ever saw this movie was at midnight, watching HBO in a hotel back in the 80s. It was surreal seeing two cops in the middle of the night flying above the streets of LA, observing the city below them. Blue Thunder was a unique thriller of the 80s, slightly ahead of its time, dealing with issues of privacy, surveillance.
The sight of aircraft smashing into tall buildings, however, slightly takes the edge off the fun after 9/11, but director Badham wasn't to know that two decades earlier. Warren Oates is good value.
