History and architecture. A total artwork The Chagall Museum is located on Cimiez hill, not far from the historical center of Nice. The building, opened to the public in 1973, was designed by French architect André Hermant - a former collaborator of Auguste Perret - under the strict supervision of Chagall, who was living in the village of Saint-Paul de Vence, a few kilometers away. Take the #15 bus, which stops near Place Masséna in the central square of Nice behind the Galleries Lafayette. The bus winds up the hill. Look for the stop that says Musée Chagall. The art collection at the Marc Chagall museum is the biggest public collection of art works by Marc Chagall in the World. The museum is organised around the set of paintings produced on the Old Testament themes. The main attraction is the twelve large-size paintings illustrating the first two books of the Old Testament (Genesis and Exodus).
