Without any doubt, the YA 328 6×6 is DAF's most legendary military vehicle ever. It was developed in the early fifties, yet one can say it's an evolution of pre-war DAF military equipment and knowledge. These were powered by a 132 hp, Hercules JXLD gasoline engine. The transmission was a constant mesh, ZF five-speed. The DAF YA-328 used walking beams where the axle was no more than a pivot and the drive was supplied entirely by external longitudinal drive shafts, one on each side. [1] As was usual for heavy vehicles of this period, the final drives and right-angle drive to the stub axles were combined through a worm gear box. Its design was based on the previous DAF YA-328. The famous 'Dikke Daf' three-tonne truck allowed many parts to be reused, and the final vehicle therefore was easy to integrate into the existing military supply and maintenance systems of the Dutch Army.
