De Dageraad (The Dawn) is a subsidiary to the 'Het Schip Museum'. These buildings are excellent examples of the Amsterdam school style (1910 to 1930). The attention to detail, mix of material and play in form are all on display in these buildings. I loved the combinations of brickwork, stone, metal and wood in doorways. Residential complex De Dageraad is the Amsterdam School in its purest form. Architects Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer were commissioned to design all facets of the streetscape. In addition to the street facades, they also designed the rear facades and floor plans. This led to a form of total art in which beauty was central.
