The International Court of Justice: 75 Years in the Service of Peace and Justice. This publication was produced to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the inaugural sitting of the ICJ. It was produced with the general public in mind and uses clear and accessible language to describe the Court and its activities. On Thursday 11 and Friday 12 January 2024, the International Court of Justice will hold public hearings at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the seat of the Court, in the proceedings instituted by South Africa against Israel on 29 December 2023.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946. The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands). The ICJ is the only international court that adjudicates general disputes between countries, with its rulings and opinions serving as primary sources of international law (subject to Article 59 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice ).
