The Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus (ECV) is a fraternal organization dedicated to the preservation of the heritage of the American West, especially the history of the Mother Lode and gold mining regions of the area. E Clampus Vitus was one of several brotherhoods that swept as many as 40 percent of American men into their fold during the "golden age of fraternalism" in the late nineteenth and early twentieth.

Whenever a new E Clampus Vitus Chapter is formed, Clampers travel from around the country to attend that chapter's chartering ceremonies. Over 200 Clampers made their way to Whidbey Island for Doc Maynard's event, including nine past national presidents.
