The dataset was created by merging elevation data from the SRTM and ASTER global datasets, as well as from Soviet topo maps at high latitudes. The datum used is EVRS2000. Coverage The dataset covers European Environment Agency member states, plus some countries to the east. Elevation map of Europe (3km grid) The map is made using the global digital elevation model (DEM) derived from GTOPO30. Note that the values in the file are not the original elevation data. The data has been processed to create an image for presentation purposes streching a predefined colour template over the derived values. Simple EuroDEM (digital elevation model) describes the distribution of terrain or 'bare earth' heights, not including 'first surface' elevations such as vegetation and man-made structures. It is ideal for environmental change research, hydrologic modelling, resource monitoring, monitoring mapping and visualisation. Last Update 11/2023 Coordinate System
