Uit liefde voor historische bouwmaterialen, begon Martens in 1987 met de ontmanteling van vooroorlogse panden die gedoemd waren tot de sloop. Jaren bouwde hij aan een voorraad van deze materialen, met een specialisatie in antieke vloertegels. Het bedrijfje wist in de daaropvolgende decennia uit te groeien en de dochters martens stapten enthousiast mee aan boord. Martens en Dochters wordt geleid door Marjon, een enthousiaste interieurstyliste die de liefde voor handgemaakte en authentieke keukens al vroeg van haar vader meekreeg.
