In 1836, a pottery company founded by François Boch and located in Mettlach, Germany, merged with another founded by Nicolas Villeroy to form the famous ceramic company called Villeroy & Boch (V&B). The project The Old Abbey in Mettlach has been Villeroy & Boch's headquarters for over 200 years. Jean-François Boch purchased the former Benedictine monastery in 1809 and set about restoring the building, which had sustained severe damage during the War of the First Coalition from 1792 onwards. As part of the "Mettlach 2.0" site development project, Villeroy & Boch is continuing to invest in the attractiveness of the site at its headquarters around the Old Abbey in Mettlach. In addition to modern working environments for employees, the areas accessible to local residents, guests and tourists are being modernised and redesigned in.
