[6] Born in 1947, Riperton grew up in Chicago 's Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. Minnie is the fifth studio album by American R&B/jazz singer Minnie Riperton. She died of cancer two months after its release. This was also her first album for Capitol Records .
