The Thatched House Museum is a traditional Tristan cottage newly built in 2012 from locally quarried volcanic rock and thatched with New Zealand flax. It is lined inside with painted wood, which in the past would have been salvaged from shipwrecks, and furnished in traditional style. It even has a traditional outside privy! It gives a great idea of the simplicity of island life in the past, and is expertly introduced by Anne Green the curator who was very friendly and helpful about explaining the past as shown here. The museum was small and focused art displaying images from the war. The best part of this museum was the staff. They made themselves readily available, spoke great English, and can tell you everything about Croatia's history, culture and people. We spent about 45 mins talking to Ivan, who was very friendly and was a wealth of historical knowledge.
