The 2800 GTS Coupé was presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1969, at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1970 and in Barcelona in April 1970 . The study was sold privately the following year. After the coupe was shut down in 1980, it got a new engine from a 3.0 CSi in 1985. The body was painted in dark red instead of light green. The outcome was the 2800 GTS: a sleek four-seater sports coupe featuring a distinctive fastback design and a bold front end reminiscent of the muscle cars from the late 1970s or early 1980s. There are many legends about the BMW 2800 GTS, namely how it came to be rediscovered and restored. Frua sold the car to a new owner in Spain, where the car was evidently repainted.
