To make the slot, my first idea was to use my router table (not a shaper, although I could have used a shaper bit). Cutting a 1/4" slot in a 2" long piece was very dangerous. My long term idea was to make a small router table and "dedicate" a small, battery powered, trim router to making the slot. Profile refers to the size/thickness of the T-Slot bar used. Common profiles are 2020 (20mmx20mm) , 3030 (30mmx30mm), 4040 (40mmx40mm) etc. Aluminum extrusion is very strong, and in most cases you will not need to build with anything over 3030.
