The Howard DGA-4 a.k.a. Mike, and DGA-5 a.k.a. Ike and "Miss Chevrolet" was the next in a series of racers from Ben Howard. He built two examples, "Mike" and "Ike", each with a different landing gear design. [1] Design and development Howard DGA-5 "Ike"/"Miss Chevrolet" NR56Y DGA-4 "Mike" (NR55Y) & "Ike" (NR56Y). Aside from Ben Howard, the following race pilots flew these aircraft: Harold Neumann, Bill Ong, Joe Jacobsen, and Roy Minor. Mike and Ike still survive and are under private ownership; Ike and its original Menasco B6 engine are currently under restoration.

The Experimental airplane that would combine aspects of the DGA-15 and the famous DGA-6 racer became known as the Dickenson-Howard DGA-21 (15 plus 6), and it slowly began taking shape in Dickenson's crowded, corrugated-metal hangar at Santa Paula Airport in Southern California.
