r/danganronpa • 4 yr. ago Kaitowo_Momota Why Kaito Momota isn't homophobic Misc. Yes he may have said some fucked up shit, but it was bc he was uneducated. He basically called Korekiyo a gay creepy crossdresser with a form of a slur. Ofc that's not okay and I am in no way justifying the use lf slurs. Kaito Momota was a piece of shit in Japanese. He was rude, offensive, way too abrasiveness, fuck dude, he even called Korekiyo a "fag" at one point, thinking being gay is wrong, calling femininity a weakness, and was super sexist towards Maki.

I will be ranting about a character that I've never understood the liking towards, Kaito Momota. Kaito Momota is indefensibly homophobic, toxic, and misogynistic but that's okay. Among other things, Kaito Momota is used to deliver a certain portrayal of toxic masculinity in Japan, which does include the bigotry associated with it. Personally, I think it all makes him more dynamic and interesting. If what you're bothered by is people claiming Momota is homophobic and therefore it's bad to like him or he is abusive to. When Maki strangles him, Kaito is the one that reacts, telling her to not kill him, as she would become the blackened. In the japanese one, as i'd like to defend particularly THIS one point: Kaito doesnt actually say not to kill because he doesnt want her executed, he doesnt want any more people to die!

People are just exaggerating how Kaito is. Kaito is still the same guy. He still pulls Shuichi it of sadness. It's just that some of his dialogue in the Japanese version has more emphasis on his overly-traditional views thanks to how he was raised by his grandparents like Chapter 2 shows. #1 Super Sep 15, 2017 @ 8:09pm The only reason I could see people hating him would be because he calls other characters ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and acts very homophobic through out the game. The bottom line is that Kaito Momota is a pretty great character starting out, but he's just too poorly handled going forward. The writers loved him so much that they spoiled him with their love, and in the end he never got that innovative and creative character arc he was destined for.
